How To Pinterest

pinterest

If you are trying to get a better web following and are not considering Pinterest or YouTube, you are
sorely mistaken. Consider this. Americans watched 33 billion online content videos in February alone.
Pinterest is now the third most popular social networking tool beating LinkedIn & Tumblr. While Friending
and Tweeting my still be really popular; pinning is now becoming more and moreo popular.

Pinterest is the picture sharing program tha allows users to create vision boards of their favorite things.
It is now the third most popular social network based on visits from American users. In place after Facebook
and Twitter, Pinterest had 104,415,903 unique visits last month alone (March ’13). This massive number shows
a rapid jump since the company first launched in March 2010 and has been picking up in recent months. There has
been a 50 percent boost in traffic from January to February this year. Pinterest now has more visitors than
Linked In, Tumblr and Google +.

One interesting trend is that Pinterest actually beat our Facebook and Twitter in Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas,
Utah and Missouri. This shows a geographic skewing towards the middle of the country. This trend could continue
and soon another medium called Pinterest could overtake the internet Phenom named Facebook, but only time will
tell. So, “how do you use Pinterest?” This is the most common question I get from coworkers and Committee members.

So, let me go to the experts (Pinterest) and let them explain it to you! :-)

Pin

A pin starts with an image or video you add to Pinterest. You can add a pin from a website using the Pin It bookmarklet or upload an image right from your computer. Any pin on Pinterest can be re-pinned  and all pins link back to their source.

Board

A board is where you organize your pins by topic. You could pin ideas for remodeling your bathroom to your House Projects board, for example. Boards can be secret or public, and you can invite other people to pin with you on any of your boards.

Follow

When you follow someone, their pins show up in your Pinterest home feed. You can follow all of someone’s boards or just the ones you like best. To manage who you’re following, go to your profile and click Following.

Unfollow

When you unfollow someone, their boards won’t show up in your home feed anymore. You can unfollow all of someone’s boards, or just the ones you’re not that interested in. Nobody will get notified if you unfollow them.

How to Make It to the Top

The difference between the first and second positions of a Search Engine Result Page do really mean a lot to businesses. According to a Compete and a recent study, 85% of all listings are organic and the remaining 15% appear as paid search listings. Another interesting finding, about 55% of all all Search Engine Results Pages or SERPs for short have ads on the page.

Another big change is that google released a list of 65 new items to it’s search engine algorithim which will have direct implications on how websites and their pages move up in SERPs. The following bullet points are the six most important updates.

  • The Role of Authority: this focuses on more high quality content from sources that search engines trust. You can increase the trust factor by giving and receiving links from trusted and autoritative sites. Also by creating a sitemap, lowering your bounce rate and not over optimizing your content.
  • Matters of Location: this focuses on where the user is located. It localizes search results for each user and ranks them. Registering with a search engine’s local business registry is key. Also getting links from local directories or developing location specific landing pages or adding geographic keywords to landing page content, using header one <h1> and subheader <h2> tags as well as metadata.
  • The Return of Keyword Density: inserting keywords into page titles, headlines, Alternative text like under photos, adding page urls, and adding footers full of valuable data.
  • Importance of Fresh Content: google seeks out the newest content for a webpage. Make sure you are continually adding fresh content to your site. If you are not able to do this, don’t be afraid to ask for guest contributors or even do press releases for the public.
  • Title Tags in Focus: In order for Google to generate preview snippets, it needs a title as well as descriptions in the metadata or a webpage.
  • Universtal Intent: Google can give better search results when it knows what the page is strong in, either images, local interest, or video clips. What is the pages intent, make it so easy a 3rd grader could understand!

My status since graduation

Hi Everybody. I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted but I want to let you know I’m working hard getting this Portfolio thing finalized. I went to a Web Design firm last week when I was Downtown. The firm is called RT Web Design and I asked them what they use to build most of their sites. The important looking guy told me Joomla. I was like, oh really! I kind of knew it was popular out in the field but now it was just reconfirmed. I was now going to have to learn this all important Content Management System

What’s really important

After reading all the How To articles from Cocate.com there was this really cool section called “Earning respect and money with Joomla”. It was by far the most important advice I had gotten that day on Web Design. Probably common sense information but it is written from Web Design experts and that is priceless.
